Walls - Separate Worlds

A project promoted by Astràgali Teatro supported by the "Culture Programme 2007-2013" of the European Union.

Project Partners: Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, International Theatre Institute Italy Centre, University of Salento, Babelmed (Italy), International Theatre Institute Cyprus Centre (Cyprus), International Theatre Institute Directorate General, Un Vrai Beau Gars (France), Madrasa Performance Research Association (Turkey).

The project focuses on the crucial question of the wall, as a symbolic and concrete presence in our societies. Walls are paradigms of separate worlds in situations of conflict and of lack of recognition of cultural plurality. Activities aim to foster processes of integration and inclusion, following a path of memory crossing. Culture has a main role in the elaboration of European identities in a multicultural and dialogical perspective.Through a synergic interaction between theatre and sociological research, partners create a path, touching the stories of involved countries. The elaboration of the Berlin wall dialogues with the question of the dividing line in Cyprus and the elaboration of the memory in Greece and Turkey, up to the building of new fences in France and Italy and to the presence of the wall in Palestine.

Culture, indeed, plays a pivotal role in the comprehension and recognition of the other, as an indispensable factor of dialogue, integration, social cohesion in diversity.
